On our route, Kelsey decided to preplan our route to the school the next morning. From what we remembered, Rankin was a little less than an hour away from Aunt Diana'a house.
When Kelsey entered the address into our GPS, we found that the drive would actually be about 7 hours!
Upon further research, we realized that there are two Rankins in Texas. One outside Dallas, one outside Midland. We called the school directly, and verified that they are indeed outside Midland, about 8 hours from where we currently were.
We regretfully had to call and cancel our dinner and overnight plans, and immediately had to adjust to to a new mindset of emergency last-minute ROADTRIP!
We drove all evening and into the night. Kelsey booked a hotel for us in Midland, and we arrived around midnight. All was well, and we unexpectedly found ourselves once again in West Texas.
We remarked what a blessing it was that we were able to identify the problem early enough in the day. Normally, we check the exact distance to our school the night before, for us to set our alarm. If that had been the case, we wouldn't have found out until maybe 10:00, and we would have had to hit the road that minute, and arrive at the school just in time for a half hour nap before starting to set up. Awful, huh? So... disaster averted. We're glad God nudged Kelsey to randomly check the school on the GPS when she did. Else, the consequences would have been pretty extreme. As it turned out, we had a pretty smooth Friday. Rankin was surprisingly beautifully situated, and the school was excited to have us. If only they knew how close they were to not having us...
