To celebrate our journey to Virginia, Kelsey and I stopped at Bugaboo Creek for dinner. Fortunately, it was exactly on our route south. Kelsey received a gift card on her birthday, and we were fortunate to be traveling right by one of the few Creeks in the area. We enjoyed some fantastic steak, and a nice atmosphere during our leisurely drive south.

We continued on, and stopped for gas in the little town of Newport News. There, we saw signs advertising "Celebration in Lights". We decided to take a little detour through a beautifully lit park. Pictures attached.

After about a mile-long light display, we hit the road again and continued onto Virginia Beach.

We booked a Howard Johnson beachside hotel, and were delighted to find that our room overlooked the Atlantic Ocean. Sidenote: Beachtowns off-season are ghostly and desolate--but the hotels are cheap!

Over the course of our stay, we found that Virginia Beach, too, had a light display stretching as far as we could see down the boardwalk. We were able to walk down the beach for free and snap even more Christmas light pictures. More pictures attached.

On our day off, we walked around the beach town to find breakfast. The in-hotel restaurant only had cold breakfast--we could pay $3 for a bagel and cream cheese... or... try to find something else. So we found Abbey Road, a lovely Beatle-themed restaurant several cold blocks from our hotel. We got there before it opened (everything opens late, if at all, in an off-season beach town!), but the waitress let us in and offered us something to drink while we waited for the grill to heat up.

Staying on the beach for these few days was very nice. Though it was too cold to be out on the beach, we could still open the window curtains and experience the beach from the comfort of our room.
