Where I stayed
So we arrive around 6:15.
Clifton High School is HUGE. We found out it's the second largest school in the state. The largest single-building school. We couldn't even find the main office. And, still being so early, the place was vacant.
We drove around until we found some guy walking around. He was there to set up the breakfast program. But he couldn't get in the building, either. We were both waiting for the same contact person, who he said wouldn't arrive until 7:00.
Seven o'clock? We were frustrated, because it just seems like in these big schools, we just get lost in this big-school mindset of crowd-control, don't-alter-our-schedule (but-we-can-inconvenience-yours), people-are-just-numbers. And we were in New Jersey.
Anyway, we eventually got in and got set up to show four consecutive showings of our video.
Huge school. Over 3500 kids saw it that day. They weren't very attentive or respectful. Our DVDs kept getting out of synch. Just one of those days where we have to get through with the attitude "Well, our job is to come in, set up, show the video, and leave. We're doing our job." Some days are a lot of fun. Some days are not. This one was not, but that's okay.
And I've been sick. I've been fighting a cold all weekend, and it's just now starting to fade. So it's been draining. Maybe that's why this entry is rather stream-of-consciousness.
But things are good! It's a tough job, though. Always on the go, sleeping in a new hotel room every night, having to eat in a restaurant every night, dealing with unhelpful hotel staff and fixing van problems. And that's all outside of our routine technician work at schools!
Please pray for our stamina. It's been grinding lately, and we've got a busy week ahead with early mornings.
Also, while I'm thinking of it. When you have a chance, check out www.lifewithoutlimbs.org. It features the ministry of Nick Vujicic, a man born without arms or legs. His story and interview are included in the video we show, and we've fallen in love with him and his ministry. Kelsey and I are considering donating to his ministry as our monthly tithe (since we are without a regular church home).
Alright, well that's good for now. Off to New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland this week. Then I believe next week is a solid tour of New Jersey.
We'll do our best to keep you posted!
