We spent our brief time in Hong Kong luxuriating in our hotel (courtesy of Cathay Airlines). We ate, drank (bucket o' Heinekens at the Irish pub!) and swam in the art deco pool, and got on the 10:00pm flight refreshed and ready to roll.
Once in India, and SARS -free so far, we managed to dodge the infamous airport cons and landed safely around 3:00am in the Hotel Anoop in the heart of New Delhi. Not so lucky this morning on our initial attempt to buy train tix to the mountains. Round one went to the "touts", who have a pretty good gig going. They put on a VERY convincing show to convince us that the train station will not sell us any tix, then escort us to a nearby office where we have the oppotunity to buy the same tix at about 300% the price. Thanks, but no thanks. A little chow at the rooftop restaurant and we were back at it, this time with some serious 'tude, which apparently conferred the street cred we needed to get it right Beers in Hong Kong

. Tix in hand,we will spend the day chilling (it's around 105 degrees), and head for the train station tonight. Assuming all goes well, we will awake in the hill station of Nanital, with the splendor of the Indian Himal stretched out before us. Nice!
Heather is rock solid, showing no fear (perhaps bolstered by her uncanny ability to sleep untold hours regardless of her surroundings). She has shown particular grit in the face of the circus-style nose picking that goes on all around us. She is convinced that she has yet to miss a single nasal foray - we'll save the picking pix for the slide show. OK, I'm sure that's enough of that for now. Hope all's well w/ you stateside - more from the mountains...
