We rolled at a steady pace and reached Santa Barbara with time to get out and enjoy the warm sun on our faces. 'Nilla nabbed a prime parking spot right on Cabrillo Drive next to the beach and was surrounded by towering palms. SWEET! We looked around for soap opera stars, but we were not so lucky on this day. Where do they tape Days of our Lives? Salem is it? We should have checked there.
We stopped for gas and were checking the essential fluids on 'Nilla in Carmarillo, CA when we encoutred an old man from Vegas. He spotted the van and was curious about us. Boldly, he approached Mike as he was pumping gas to ask about our credo "Negativity Free Zone". "What does it all mean and who do you represent?" he asked. Mike replied "It means this is a negative free zone and we represent the Negative Free Zone Society...of which I am president". At this point the old man giggled and said "Now I know you're pulling my leg....have a great trip!"
And then we rolled into Hollywood! First on the list of things to do was get a shot of 'Nilla with the Hollywood sign in the background. Kinda silly that her photo took precidence over our own?! But it's not every day that a gem like our 'Nilla rolls into the glitziest city in the USA. We cruised Hollywood Boulevard, the Sunset Strip and even drove to Beverly Hills. Unfortunately just after the "Beverly Hills" sign, we spotted another sign that read "no cruising past this point". In any other vehicle I think we may have been able to "cruise" without being obvious....but definately not in 'Nilla.
It was dusk by the time we left Los Angeles so it was neat to see a bit of the city nightscene. Everything seemed to come alive. The lights were on everywhere and people were overflowing the sidewalks. There may even be a small possibility that Geraldine saw Jann Arden in a limosine. If it was her, she must have had a great night before as she was looking a little worse for wear. She promptly rolled up the window as we pulled up next to her so she couldn't ask for her autograph. Next time.
We passed by the famous Wiskey A - Go - Go and were tempted to stop in for a beer and feel the spirit of Jim Morrison. The traffic was hairy and parking was not going to happen. Plus the last thing we needed was to be half cut navigating the van out of LA.
We pulled into an RV site called "Rancho Los Coches" for the night and were we ever impressed with what we got. It was by far the prettiest, cleanest and all around enjoyable site we've stayed at thus far. We can't even remember how many times we showered in the short time we were there. Not because we were so filthy....just because the showers were so private, so clean and the water was so hot. We think they hired a guy to sit outside the showers to mop up the water and polish the tile floor after each use.
