Cordoba ... this was our stop off between Santa Rosa and Salta. In contrast to Santa Rosa the bus station at Cordoba was excessively well endowed with shops, cafés and comfortable places to sit, all of which would have been put to much better use if they were in Santa Rosa - nevermind. Cordoba is a nice enough place. The second largest city in Argentina, but despite this it seemed less frenetic than previous cities we'd visited with lots of pedestrianised streets and an spacious plaza lined with Jacaranda trees in full purple bloom (which reminded me of Zimbabwe). Actually there were Jacaranda trees everywhere. Incidently the name of the street where our hostel was located was 'Santa Rosa' of all places. Weather was decisively hotter than in the south and on arriving at our hostel we were told, 'the weather's been very bad the last couple days - 43 degrees C!´. Fortunately the temperature didn't quite reach those heights while we were there - although we did end up having the fan in our room on all night.

Not much happened while we were there although as stop-offs go this was a good-un. We did witness a march which included lots of loud bangs resembling gun fire, and a tire on fire. Being foreigners we had no idea what was going on - for all we knew they could have been protesting against tourists with cameras (see photo).

Anyway...Salta next!
