Its been a while since we have updated so we are doing two blogs.
You left us last in Chiang Mai where we took a cheap flight down to Phuket. The seedy ladyboy capital of Thailand. We left pretty quickly and headed to Krabi on a local bus.... which was entertaining to say the least. Once in Krabi we took a taxi to Ao Nang, a lovely beach fronted town. We both decided it was a little bit of a holiday resort, lots of Germans, but none the less it was beautiful and we both got a few decent hours on the beach chilling in the sun. We learnt how to barter in the stalls, ate good local food and saw some 'Chav' Tuk-Tuks with speakers and lights!! The hotel also had an amazing view and a rooftop garden, so we saw some pretty decent sunsets
We got up early the next day and took our first experience of a long tail boat over to the best beach in Thailand (our opinion) Railay Beach. This place was heaven, not many people, a few wild monkeys and blue skies that the postcards described, plus mikes sunburn!! A fantastic beach that we would have liked to stay the night on, but we had already booked our ferry over to Phi Phi for the next day.
Phi Phi was stunning, a shock, but stunning. The effects of the Tsunami were still there, just, but very much still in the hearts of the people. Speaking to a tour guide in a shop, she had been there when the wave hit, and her face said it all. She had lost friends and also her business. The island has since been rebuilt and the bars still thrive. We think it could become Ibiza if Radio 1 got involved but thankfully the long flight times could help keep it small. Many bars and restaurants had photos of the clean up and really being back home doesn't show you the scale of the disaster. Geography bit done.
Anyway... we found some great beaches on Phi Phi one called long beach which we walked to over the top of Phi Phi (a mountain) described to us as a small hill climb!!!
A Great first experience of the Islands which we will remember for a long time.
Hope all is well at home
Much love as always xxxxx
