During the whole trip we had not seen much traffic but this day we decided to count the vehicles we passed coming towards us….they averaged three vehicles every ten kms!  Mike had the cruise control set to 90km/hour which is the most economical speed with the caravan, and it was surprising how few cars overtook us the whole journey.  At about lunch time we arrived at Sandfire Roadhouse where we had planned to overnight at the caravan park but after seeing the dust bowl, we decided to do the same as the other caravaners there…first a visit to the toilet, then pull off to the side and eat our packed lunch.  The photo of the red ant hills is at the Sandfire Roadhouse and the men's toilet with the ladies on the outside!!!  Sandfire had been burnt down by a bush fire a few years ago and it is planned to rebuild it soon

The Greyhound bus which left Broome at about the same time as us arrived at Sandfire while we were there.  Sandy at Broome Gateway had told us that Peter, her husband, was driving the bus and we might see him on the way.  He left Sandfire just before us and arrived at Pardoo a couple of hours later while we were filling with fuel. Here, the Greyhounds from Karratha and Broome meet up and swap passengers before returning to their respective bases.

The Pardoo Roadhouse caravan park is like a little oasis in the middle of nowhere with lovely shady green grass sites and a welcoming cool swimming pool. From memories of roadhouses twenty years ago, we were pleasantly surprised that these days the roadhouses are so spacious, clean and pleasant with interesting shops and usually a restaurant.  What a change from yesteryear when they were just small dingy places to pay for fuel and perhaps buy a greasy sausage or chico roll. The caravan park at Pardoo quickly filled up and we chatted to our new neighbours as we all set up camp. After dinner we settled down, watched a DVD, drank a glass of wine and eventually turned in for the night.
