Matt, the Aussie I met in Cinque Terre, was also headed off to Venice the next day so we decided to join together and see what we could get acoomplished in Venice. I would love to say a lot but it ened up to be a walking city.
We arrived on train and with no accomodations. As soon as we got off the train this guy approached us and within about 3 minutes we were headed to a little scummy hostel just outside the downtown area of Venice. It was what you can expect for a cheap, one star hotel. Not the finest of Accom but defianlly a roof over our heads and it was cheap. My research had me coming to the conclusion that I was going to have to pay close to 40 Euros in Venice. I was not a happy camper so when this guy showed up and offered a bed for 22 euros I jumped on it right away.
Like I said I would love to say that we did all this amazing stuff in Venice but we didn't. Its a great city just to walk, people watch, and just take in the city. We headed down to the Famous Rialto Bridge, took some pics and then headed down to St. Marco Square. Took in the Cathedral and just finished the evening walking the streets of Venice.
Since I had already been here in 1999 I decided I was going to only stay for 2 nights and then head out. Matt was only staying for one night so he was out first thing in the moring. All these travelers that want to see all of Europe in 30 days. One or Two nights in a city and then they keep moving. It is way to fast for my liking. I am tired most of the time moving every 3 or 4 days. I said good bye to Matt early in the moring and was tring to figure out that I was going to do in the city.
My mom, Aunite Donna and Aunite Maxine had a little job for me while I was in the city. I checked out a few places, got some info for them and then just hung out by the water for the remaining of the afternoon. A great day in my eyes. I was headed out the next day and even though I hadn't seen everything in Venice that could have been seen I had seen exactly what I wanted to see and I was perfectly happy with that. The next day I was headed to Verona, this could have been a really hit or miss city.................
