Okay, I havenīt blogged in quite some time and I am patiently waiting for my night train to depart at 11:00pm. Seeing that it is only 6:00pm I thought I would take the extra time and write a little.
My time in Switzerland was coming to an end really quickly and other then the prices Switz has to be one of my favorite countries on tour. When I left off I was in Bern with Manny and he was deciding if was going to join me in Genva. Well....... he did. We boared the train which was about 3 hours and headed to the buisness capital of Switzerland. I knew from my Swiss family that it wasnīt going to be the highlight of my time in switz but I thought it was a good stop between France, mainly because the train was going to be 18 hours to Nice. We were still traveling with the two Americans but they arrived in Geneva the day before due to the fact that they were meeting up with friends. Manny was only making Geneva a stop over, he had to grab a night train in the evening so we were going to have to say our good byes later that day.
We met up with the Americans at the train station when we arrived and I dropped my bag at my hostel. We quickly realized that Geneva was one big buisness city and not a lot to see or do. So that is what we did, nothing. We walked, stopped at a couple cafes and just toured. The only thing that was worth going to see was the fountain.
The fountain was quite impressive. The Jet d'eau projects half a cubic meter of water per second up to 140 meters high, it requires two powerful groups of motorpumps representing a global weight of over 16 tons and a total power of close to 1000 kilowatts. I know what you are thinking, I am getting good with my info, I took it from the broucher but I thought that they expalined it a little better. We had lunch looking at the massive stream of water and then countinued our walk. I was very happy to be with some friends. Nothing is worth while traveling is touring a boring city by yourself. An exciting city, No Prob, Boring can lead to a very long day.
We walked Manny to the train station about 7:00pm and said our good byes. I had traveled with the guy for about 13 days now and I was going to miss the little bugger. He was on his way to San Sebastian, one of my stops but not for about a week and half. I said good night to Tori and Will and I headed back to the hostel to make some dinner.
THE ELECTION. Well beleive it or not, CNN is right, the World is watching. The TV at the hsotel was constantly tuned to CNN to get the lateest updates in the race. It was getting to the point where people were just sitting and slowly getting adictted to it. I was one of those people for sure. I had decided, even though I was in one boring city I was going to hang around and watch the final results three days later.
The next day I went for one freakin long walk around Lake Geneva and then went shopping for the rest of the afternoon. I was going back and forth about about investing in a Swiss watch and I knew that if I was going to do it I only had 2 more days left. The watch situtation in Swizerland is beyond out of control. Every second shop sells the time peices and selection is overwhelming. I took about 3 hours out of my day, tring on watch after watch and still couldnīt decided. I knew that I was going to see Tori and Will the next day and they could help me so I waited.
The next day I met up with the guys and first thing on the agenda was finding me a watch. It was nice to have an opion there other then my own. I quickly snagged a good deal and then we had the task of tring to find something to do. We finally decided to take a day trip, mainly because Geneva was turning out to be quite boring. We boarded the train to Lausanne, oops. We quickly found out that Lausanne wasnīt all that more exciting. A quick trip to the Cathedaral and the Skate park and we were done. We stopped for a bite to eat and called it a day trip.
That night we watched the election for hour after hour on end. Even though it was being repeated about 10 times over we were still attached to the freakin TV. I fianlly gave up at 3:00am and headed for bed. Knowing that Obama was going to take it, I had a train to catch in the moring and didnīt want to over sleep and miss it. Overall not the most exciting 3 days of my trip but after 5 months of being on the road, a couple misses are defianlly going to happen. The next day I was on my way back to the French speakers in Nice, France.............................
