Written over a week ago but only just had enough wifi to
send! -

Hello! We have been on the road in our little camper ( Sharon OZborne ) for 6
days and are currently in a tiny place called Kennet River where there are lots
of parrot birds and ducks. Up until yesterday we have been travelling with a
couple we met in Adelaide which has been really good although we are now
exhausted as they are far more into early mornings than us. On the first day of
our trip, after a few hours of driving around rather nervously trying to get
used to the camper, we drove from Adelaide to a little place called Robe. After
a bit of confusion when it turned out Fran and Ian's hostel no longer existed
we finally settled in a campsite by a lake and cooked some yummy spag bol. The next
day was another fairly long day of driving but the scenery was amazing as we
entered the Grampian Mountains. Our campsite was full of kangaroos bouncing
around everywhere! That night we went to Fran and Ian's very nice 'eco lodge'
and enjoyed our first Australian bbq, despite the English rain. After a very
wet and loud sleepless night we woke up early and went to do some Grampians sightseeing.
We walked to the "balconies" which are big rocks jutting out over the
forests, from the signpost it looks as though the view would have been amazing,
as it was it was very misty but still looked impressive with some of the tree
tops just popping up above the mist. We climbed up onto the iconic jutting out
rocks, which it turns out may have been sealed off for a reason as it was very
windy and there was just enough time for a quick picture before we got too
scared the wind was going to blow us off and scrambled down. After a few more
trips to some viewpoints we drove back down to Halls Gap and continued our
journey Our next trip was from Halls Gap to port fairy. The weather still
wasn't great but the views of the sea were amazing and kept us entertained for
the whole drive which was fairly short compared to the previous two days. Port
fairy was a small fishing village which had some nice beaches and little shops.
We stopped in our cheapest campsite yet and cooked up another sort bbq (peppers
and chicken which we had in wraps). After another stormy night we set off at
8:30am!! and drove along the most famous part of the great ocean road where we
saw lots of impressive rock formations in the sea and lots of beautiful
beaches. The weather had brightened up and a very nice day was had, finished
off by a scrummy fish and chips (which was actually sausage and chips as Mike won't
eat fish) in Apollo Bay. We spent the evening, which had turned stormy again,
huddled in the van and trying and failing to make coffee and tea as the camping
cooker blew right off the table and the rain and wind seemed to make it
impossible for the water to boil. We said goodbye to Fran and Ian as we planned
to do the second part of the Great Ocean Road slower. The next day the weather
was so wet we barely got out of the van so there is not much to say about that,
but finally today the weather has gotten much better and we have enjoyed a nice
walk along the beach and a pleasant drive down to Kennett river where we have
managed to successfully eat outside without our rain coats on! Will update
again soon xxxx

It's great to hear about your travels. Sorry that the weather isn't too good - it's much drier in Manchester!!
