Nested among the mountains, at the end of the road, we reach the adorable and restful town of Chaouen which medieval Medina, all iced in turquoise stucco, creeps along the side of the mountain.
Paradise found !
Well known paradise, as a matter of fact, where hordes of Spanish week-enders flock on Friday night, pouring out of Tangier's ferries only 150 km away.
As for us, showing up stupidly on a Saturday night, we can only secure a filthy room in the most appalling guest house of the Medina.
Horrendous night in the filth , brutally interrupted at 3 AM by the phenomenally loud "Poooooooooooooo !" of some sort of Tibetan horn. Absolutely furious , Yasmin rushes to the roof top terrasse to realize that , on top of staying in the filthiest place in town, we picked a prime location right across from a Mosk. Which mosk, instead of calling for prayer through the gentle and melodious psalmody of an Imam, like anywhere else in the Ismamic world, savagely wakes every body up through the loud blasting of some unknown wind pipe.
We hastily moved the next morning to some more pleasant accommodation...
That detail attended to, we could have stayed for ever in Chaouen : beauty , calm, fancy cafes and restaurant. No other place in Morocco packs as much charm as Chaouen ...
Just come and chill out.
