Marek announced this morning that he and Vanya had a big project to complete and soon after breakfast both put their head scarves on, old shoes, and shirtless went out to work. They were clearing all the old wooden planks from the back yard, chopping some for our campfires, and sorting the better ones for future projects. I have noticed that Vanya really enjoys working physically even when the work is challenging and weather conditions difficult. He seems to draw a lot of satisfaction from finishing such a job and gains confidence in his physical abilities. He was pushing a barrel heavy with wood across the yard and rearranging the boards under the porch for several hours and I had to remind him to drink lots of water in this hot weather.

I could relax a little more this morning since I prepared the soup for today last night and we still had plenty of pierogi from Babcia Irenka to finish. The barley soup was so good, each of us had seconds and then suffered from overstuffing. Another siesta was needed, this time for about two hours. Then the men were ready to continue their labor. Marek could live in the country and have a ranch like this. He loves farmwork, always has a project in mind, and really knows how to take care of the whole menagerie. Even Darek, the owner, isn't as good at it as Marek. Darek lives here only because his wife had a dream of having a horse ranch. She does most of the work with the horses and Darek helps out with everything else. But he doesn't have a country mindset and it shows in the chaos that we see in the yard when we arrive. When we leave, it looks as if a real farmer was taking care of business, thanks to Marek.

Ania went out to wash her car and a minute later I hear laughter and squealing outside. I ran out with my camera to capture Ania spraying the boys with water. Everybody had tons of fun, especially after Marek had to take off his wet clothes (except for boxer shorts) and was pretending to be a Chip'n Dale. I think even the dogs were laughing.

So that all the work wouldn’t turn us into bores we decided to have some fun and ride the horses. Vanya always gets Fatra because she is the best behaved one and never gallops without a specific command. I usually ride Adah, a kind and well mannered horse who listens and responds to women. Marek, as a man, rides Cardinal, the chief of the group, and Ania’s favorite is Adagio, the crazy one. The weather was perfect for riding and the horses followed each other politely. I love to gallop but Vanya wasn’t ready so I stayed with him and let the others run. I hope he’ll get brave tomorrow so we can ride through the forest, my favorite.

We had a campfire supper again since the weather was just delightful, but we rushed it a little to be able to watch the Polish national soccer team play Cameroon in a friendly game. What a waste of time!!! When the commentators described the team from Africa as "not a threat" I knew we were in trouble. I guess I didn’t suspect that we’d lose 0:3 after one of the most boring and pitiful games I have ever seen. If this is how we intend to play in two years at the Euro 2012 Cup which is to be held in Poland and Ukraine, it will be a huge embarrassment. Bitterly disappointed, we watched an episode of “Dr. House” to cheer ourselves up.

Looking exhausted, we all decided to call it a day. What a day…
