Where I stayed
Up at 7am and made sure all was packed ready to go. Out of the house by 7.45 and 20 minutes later we were at the airport. Got my seat without a hitch and had to say goodbye for now to Laura. This was really hard after a month and after I have spent time in the sunshine of Florida, I shall look forward to getting back to Columbus again.
Fighting back the tears I went through security and in half an hour I was on the plane ready to taxi out on to the runway.
The flight seemed to take about 20 minutes as I was catching up on writing this blog. Got asked by the middle-aged lady next to me if I was an actor for some reason! At the other end as we were being towed at Newark, the same lady got on the mobile phone and seemed to get less than pleasing news: "My Gawwwwd! Ray's had a hawt attack?" (I think she was a local).
Got off the plane and found my way to the baggage collection carousel and spent half an hour awaiting the arrival of my suitcase
Once I could speak to someone I was told to get the monorail to another part of the airport where the shuttle arrives every 20 minutes. Got there and the shuttle was there waiting. Woo Hoo! Ten minutes later and after getting my fill of samba from the shuttle stereo I was checking in and trying to sort out the wireless internet connection...........successfully.
Spoke to my mum, Laura, Jenn, the ex, my brother, crashed out for a while, spoke to Laura again and popped down to the restaurant for some munchies. Thought I'd start off with a light salad before piling into a pizza. Big mistake....the salad came in a bowl which appeared to be a baptismal font stolen from a local church and was filled with a mix of the usual with olives and stuffed vine leaves along with a rich blue cheese dressing.
The margherita would hve kept a group of navvies filled for a week!
I'm now back in my room thinking I might join the resident bar flies downstairs for a nightcap, but only after the feast has worked it's way through!
