Mon, 30th Back online again after a long weekend. After a contractual screw-up which meant Laura couldn't close last Friday and has been renting the new place for three days, she is now officially the new owner. The closing seemed to take hours and in fact it took mere hours! Contract after contract was produced for signing and the ironic part is that once the mountain of paperwork was taken away by the woman who conducted the whole operation, Laura was given a disk with the scanned copies of the signed paperwork and was told' "We are a paper-free company". Saturday saw Michelle, Alan, Taylor and John Egg join in ploughing through the mountain of stuff to be moved to the new place. Drove a U-Haul van and seemed to settle in to driving on the 'wrong' side of the road pretty quickly. Some hours and a few aching backs later, we found ourselves flagging and after all the heavy stuff had been moved it was take-away pizza and stick your feet up time. The evening saw John and myself drive off to replenish dwindling beer supplies which we did our best to take back to dwindling levels again as speedily as possible. Sunday saw Laura and I take the U-Haul back and after a 45 minute wait as one poor bugger tried to deal with a lot of people on his own, Laura was informed that the van hire/mileage would cost well over 100 bucks! She was adamant that this was rather over the top (Bringing the fuel back up to a full tank cost $3!). The U-Haul person looked at the computer and decided that we had done 97 miles which was a bit ripe as the distance between the two properties is about half a mile and the van did about 4 journeys. This brought about a very unyielding, "NO!" from Laura with an intense, fixed gaze worthy of a stage hypnotist who had to work particularly hard to win the cooperation of a difficult member of the public. It worked. The opinion of the general manager was sought and the price arrived at what was originally predicted. With the van behind us, we headed off for some sustenance and at my behest we sought stodge courtesy the Waffle House (This crap is growing on me!). I also managed to get a free coke from our divine waitress. In the evening, we went to the Chinese buffet place where I could repent by filling my bod with a variety of healthy stuff (genetically modified possibly but it looked grand in it's variety of colours, textures and flavours). Got my 5 portions of fruit and veg....and some!
