Bringing in the Chinese New Year, Singapore
Entry 2 of 9 | show all | print this entry |
Singapore To begin with, we love Singapore Airlines! Great service throughout the flight, excellent inflight entertainment and great drinks from the bar.
We only had a night in Singapore which was enough to fit in a spout of shopping, eating and some bringing in the Chinese New Year (which coincidentally began at midnight on the 18th Feb 2007 - the morning of our first day as husband and wife).
After getting to the Peninsula Excelsior (good size room, awesome view of skyline, bit musty smelling) we quickly got to the MRT and went to Little India. Singapore's metro is super clean and efficient - just remember no durian eating while on board. Little India, by contrast is a mass of smells, people, noises and all the colours of India. We had visited here previously and at that time were reminded of some of the things we liked about India (food in particular!). We had a quick bite of idlis and sambar and managed to find some clothes for Kate (for the second time I shopped at Fashion Palace, 8 Buffalo Road, near Little India MRT where the prices and range are very good) before we got to annoyed at all the people (as with India there was a rather high number of men on the streets which can become a little intimidating after a while) and headed back towards our hotel. Down near the water there was a big new years celebration where we wandered around, tossed a coin and made a wish, took photos of our chinese symbols and Michael hit the drum for good luck.
Next stop Cebu.
