We caught the train to Florence and hopped off in Pisa to visit the leaning tower. Smaller than you imagine but certainly leaning, it was one of those icons we felt we should see. We snapped the obligatory photos, ate the obligatory pasta and jumped back on the train.

Florence is so packed with tourists that you would hardly notice the locals if they weren't so stylish! Enduring massive lines, the longest we have yet to encounter (bad luck to Versailles), is what we will remember. Also, the town is full of famous artworks. There seemed to be a Michaelangelo in every building - we figure there was probably one in our hotel somewhere. We also saw lots of great works by Raffaello, Botticelli, Da Vinci and others, as well as some rather spectacular churches (most with, of course, a Michaelangelo or two). We decided we better see 'David' (Michaelangelo's work of course) and found him rather large and certainly a great sculpture.

A short stay, any longer and we would need a pair of big sunglasses to blend in.
