A taste of Prague washed down with a road trip!

We arrived in Prague to more rain after experiencing nice weather on the train there. Checked in to a rather dingy hostel (former school boarding house with toilet to person ration approx 1 to 50) and then worked out how to get to the location of our 'road trip' we had booked earlier.

The road trip was run by a Czech guy Peter and took in some of the countryside and small towns, starting with the Kunta Hora, known for its massive cathedral and the rather bizzare 'bone church' - decorated with human bones including a chandalier and coats of arms. We stayed the night in Peter´s small home town of Dalecin, enjoying the 'bootleg' wine which was virtually forced upon all guests. The final destination was the Moravsky Karst, situated ina picturesque nationa park. The Karsts include many underground rivers, sinkholes and caves. We joined a tour that took us through some caves and then on a boat along one of the underground rivers finishing in the bottom of a sinkhole which we had previously viewed from above. All quite spectacular.

Town Clock, Prague

Prague itself is a beautiful city, but we must admit that the old churches and town halls and ankle twisting cobblestone streets are starting to run a little thin. It is one of the better preserved cities though as it escaped the wars relatively unharmed. Prague also has an old Jewish quarter remaining with a strange cemetary. The main attraction of Prague is the somewhat disapointing castle, which unfortunately (or maybe not on reflection) Kate missed, feeling a little unwell. (No more bootleg alcohol for Kate - if you remember the Laos experience...).

Happy to get out of Prague we headed south to Cesky Krumlov on the Vlatva River.
