Dancing Dresden
Entry 56 of 70 | show all | print this entry |
We had planned on staying one night in Leipzig and one night in Dresden to finish our travel in Germany. However, owing to a computer game convention in Leipzig, there was no available accommodation. We wandered around for a few hours and reboarded the train to Dresden. As luck would have it, Dresden was alive with a festival, where the restored old town (Dresden was almost completely flatenned during the second world war) was full of music, food and fun. We managed to try just about every German delicassy we had yet to sample as well as a range of homebrewed delights at the medieval section. This section was embelleshed by a stage with medieval music constantly playing as well as traditionally attired 'serfs' to ensure our bellys were always full. Other stages showed more contemporary music, both local and international. Dresden has some spectacular buildings and an interesting history, but we must confess it was all a bit lost on us. We had lots of fun though...
The train trip from Dresden to Prague followed the Elbe River, with dramatic cliffs and castles.
