Met up with A and guide. Hiro. Well travelled man as works as tour guide and has been to Europe many times. Likes mountaineering and once got lost in NZ mountains for 2 days. Search parties were sent out after him but he managed to find his way back himself. Made of stern stuff and tolerates cold well. I have noted that this is certainly true of the Japanese in general as I was wearing 4 layers whilst Hiro was in a T shirt and thin jacket. Girls in knee high socks and shorts.
Tour:
Kinkakuji
Ryonji- gardens
University of Impressionist Art for lunch
Nishijin Textile centre- Kimono show. weaving kimono. Swatches from 1500's with remarkable preservation of pigments
Gion- hunting Geiko and Maiko. Outside a Chaya when a Maiko poked head out. Startled. Later 2 Maiko ventured out and a bunch of tourist flashes went off.
Home- Dinner and Pig and Whistle.
