Totally innocent of course but there we are standing in the terminal waiting to check in and I announce that it's 'time to take my legs off' referring to trouser legs which unzip.
When making such a statement Wally hadn't realised a young guy was walking past on crutches to check in his false leg.
As usual the guilty verdict and corporal punishment were administered before questioning!
The day started well, bright sunny and fairly warm, all packed and ready for the trip back to Sydney
With a bus stop outside the Motel we thought we would give the bus a try. All very efficient we were deposited at the main doors to Christchurch Airport for the reasonable cost of £4.25 each.
As luck would have it parked in the arrivals pick up point was someone we hadn't seen for over 8 years. Scott had worked with us for over 10 years at Mid Essex (and had even been an apprentice at Mid Essex with Wally) before heading off to a new life Down Under where he now operates an airport shuttle franchise.
He thought he had escaped us but he was mistaken. We had the chance for a quick catch up and we now have his telephone number to meet up for a beer when we return.
Sadly we had to keep things brief as he had a shuttle full of passengers waiting to be deposited in the city.
There is the distinct possibility we could be returning earlier than we might have imagined.
Such a wonderful place and a route planned on the map already. All this before we make it to the North Island.
The guys from Te Waipounamu Motorcycles tell us they have a customer from Sheffield who has only missed one year riding in Nz since 1995
So there we are 2790 Km of riding in a fantastic country with friendly locals.
Even a few non pc politicians to make us chuckle.
Before we came out here so many people told us Nz was like the UK 20 years ago. Not a bad assessment lets hope they learn from our mistakes!
Arriving in Sydney in the afternoon is something of a contrast to arriving first thing in the morning.
Firstly we thought it was the difference between arriving on a 737 compared to an A380 but once we cleared customs it was apparent the place was virtually empty.
Wally did have a wry smile after the frosty few days following the iPod incident.
Well just as we were making our way to the customs hall ' crash'
Luckily the iPod escaped with just a scratch and the Kindle was unscathed.
Whoops said Wally, S--t said Jan!!!
So here we are back in Londonderry, time for a recharge, wash the kit, pick up an Oz SIM card and most importantly pick up the bikes on Saturday morning.
Then off to see Casey Stoner at Eastern Creek where the V8 supercars are putting on a show for us!
