We were up early as we could only get a booking on the 7.00am freight ferry across to KI as all the signs call it(Kangaroo Island), so we spent the night at a small little beach only 3 km from where the ferry departed from. We picked our location well as it was quite protected from the wind.  There was also some wind blown sand hills that we all spent the afternoon running up and riding the kids boogee boards down (not easy to stand on a 2 foot piece of foam and slide down a 50 metre hill) we all slept well that night.
We opted to not take the van over to KI is it added another $350 for the return trip. We organised a package and rented a 3 bedroom house on Penneshore beach for less overall than if we had taken the van. Even if we camped it was the same price. KI is a forgotten wonder and unfortunately a lot of people don't go over as the cost is quite high. The ferry is run by a private operator and the ferry price dictates the volume of tourist on the island.
We spent two nights and three days on KI and could definitely have spent another 3. The first day we explored some very old limestone caves and a honey farm. We headed of early the next day and drove the 140km to the other end of KI where we took a beach walk with the Australian Sea lions and then down to the flinders national park to where the new Zealand Fur seals are (growing in numbers) . The rock formations are detailed with massive granite boulders sitting on top of one of the head lands (the remarkables)  and large arches like the old London bridge on the great ocean road (Admirals Arch).
The afternoon was spent watching an echidna that we had almost run over on the road, I think the kids and Bec were out of the car before the car had stopped. We also found a number of wild koalas with their babies. ( they don't do much)
The kids spent the afternoon swimming at the beach  even though the temperature was quite cold.and we went looking for penquins down on the beach that night We spent the last day  exploring the beaches.  We also checked out a sheep diary where we viewed the process on how Hollumi cheese is made. We finished the day off watching a pelican feeding exhibition in Kingscote where we where sitting with the pelican at our feet (quite hilarious) and the back on the last boat out that night where we picked up the van and headed back to our beach side camp near cape Jervis for a very cold and windy night

Nice deal...
Good on you for getting such a sweet deal. Kangaroo Island sounds beautiful, thanks for sharing. It would be even nicer with lots of colourful photos.
