As we travelled to Peterborough we drove through Hawker and viewed some of the historic buildings, through Carieton (not much there), then on Orroroo to visit the large river gum in Pekina Creek(10.9 metre girth and estimated 500+ years old) then South down to Peterborough.
The morning was spent looking through the Steamtown Railway museum ( has a round shed siding housing up to 14 engines/carriages dating back to 1912) and 3 guage (standard, narrow and wide) turntable. We then spend some time at Meldonfield with Mr Zimmerman the amazing retired gentleman that makes miniature coach wagons and Railway stations.
Then overnight at Red Bend Conservation Park 14 kms E of Burra. The perfect location for tasting Johnny Cakes cooked by Sarah and Jack.
