After a very rainy drive through New Hampshire (no stopping for pictures) we were off to our first lighthouse.  The Headlight lighthouse is the one you see in all those beautiful pictures of the rugged Maine coast.  It's located just south of Portland, and even in a driving mist, was pretty spectacular to behold.  Along side the lighthouse was a large rock with the inscription of the last large ship to crash against it.  We forget how important these lighthouses were before radar.
We drove up to Freeport and yes, spent the afternoon in the headquarters of L. L. Bean.  The town is really just one big outlet for the company, with other stores for fishing, camping and even an L. L. Bean  kid's outlet.  But a cute place and off through a pretty bad rain storm to Acadia National Park, by way of Bangor.  We finally got to Bar Harbor at nightfall and only had a short time to shop before sleep.
