Lost in time...... I crossed the International Date Line!
It was strange I left Honolulu being 10 hours behind UK and arrived in Brisbane (via Sydney) 10 hours in front of the UK! I picked my hire car up and drove the 50 miles down to Surfer's Paradise. It’s a Hyundai Getz which translated means a tin can with a sewing machine motor in it! By the time I reached the hotel I was pretty knackered having done a 21 hour day taking into account the time differences.
Sunday 24th Jan 2010
Found a place for breakfast, an eat all you can for 12AUD
Had a walk around they have even got a crazy golf, found a nice pub that did fish and chips which I washed down with a pint of Castlemaine XXXX. Turning in early as I was feeling a bit jet lagged.

Not much to report. Had a lazy day by the pool reading, smothered in factor 50! Its 30°C+ again. I must spread the sun cream a little more evenly all the bits I have missed have turned pink! Got Skype working so I phoned mum and the girls. Keith noticed I was on-line so we had a video call, the quality was quite good and we chatted for half an hour.
Tuesday 26th Jan 2010
Woke up early feeling refreshed, so I had a 30 minute workout in the gym before heading for breakfast at my usual place.... It was closed cos its Australia day! So I walked a bit further and found another place which cost a dollar more but was much nicer. I feel a bit tender on the shoulders so I will keep a T-shirt on and try and stay in the shade.
I went for a walk along the Nerang River everyone has got their BBQs going and are having picnics along the bank side. It’s hit 30 again so I’m heading for the shade and a cool VB!

Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise, what a load of B******S
Armed with my map I jumped in the car and headed for the hills. I went to a place called Lamington National Park. It’s on the McPherson mountain range. The drive up there was stunning; it reminded me of the drive up Troodos. I stopped for a coffee at a mountain retreat called O’reilly’s, it’s in the rain forest which covers part of the mountain. On the way down I saw my second Roo, only this one was alive and posed for a picture, the first had an argument with an oncoming vehicle!
It reached a high of 34° today which triggered some thunder storms, but all we got was the thunder and lightning, but no rain! It was quite a show sat on the balcony enjoying a VB.
Friday 29th Jan 2010
It rained for most of the morning which helped disperse the humidity, and it was noticeably cooler
After lunch the rain had cleared so I went for a drive down the coast a bit, mile after mile of tower blocks and hotels, no wonder they call it the holiday destination of Australia. Finally the conurbation thinned out and I ended up at a little seaside resort called Coolangatta which has a place called Point Danger, where Queensland meets New South Wales.
Summary of my week in Surfer's Paradise.
If you are under thirtyish and can ride the waves, although most of the week I've seen bigger waves on a bathtub, and you like the night life and the Surf shops, this is the place to come. For me I will give it a miss next time. There is not much to see in the area unless you have kids then there are places like Water World etc. The best thing to do from here is head for the mountains where the scenery is fantastic.
Well folks thats it from here, I leave on Monday and my next report will be from Perth, Western Australia. See you soon...
