Once again, our journey back to Lima with the Cruz del Sur bus company was a doddle.
We arrived back to Lima on Good Friday and luckily had some accommodation booked for ourselves, the place was chocca blocca, and rooms were fairly scarce.
Now is probably a good time to tell ye about the amazing devotion to the church that we´ve seen all through Peru so far. The churches are constantly packed. The church in Miraflores that we went to on Good Friday normally holds 8 masses a day... A DAY, and from what we saw, every one of those masses were packed to the rafters.
How many churches do you see big screen televisions around the church so as people can see the priest, and in how many masses have you been to where they have to have ushers specifically to direct the congregation at communion time. Well, this was the case in the church in Piura, Northern Peru.
The stations of the cross on Good Friday were something different for us. They did the stations of the cross on the main road surrounding the church. There was approximately 700 or so people following and every one of them were praying and then singing between each station. What made this a bit special for us was that it took place at 8pm at night and loads of people had candles and the whole thing was really moving.
Our 2nd time in Lima was spent chilin... getting ready for our next adventure... THE AMAZON JUNGLE!!!!!!
