04 "Yeaahhh!!...We made it to Peru!!"
Got into Peru without a bother... another doddle of a border post!!Our first stop off was a town called Piura... and that is all it was... a stopoff for one night. There wasn't much to do in the town and absolutely NO tourists.
Next up was Chiclayo... once again... nothing to report... bugger all to do and bugger all tourists. However, it has to be said that the poverty that we saw was some of the worst since leaving home. Houses built out of corrugated iron or cardboard boxes are never a pleasant sight.
Huanchaco
Ahhh... the seaside! This lovely beachside town is just outside Peru's 2nd city, Trujillo. We ended up staying here for 6 days. This was mostly due to our accommodation, we had our own terrace overlooking the beach... absolutely savage!
Huanchaco and the surrounding area is famous for the fishing boats. They are made of totora reeds, so we had to have a bash off one of them. The fisherman brought us out around the bay on his "boat", using only a stick of bamboo to row... twas mad so it was!!
15 Breakfast ..if only they could all be like this
The other thing that we did in Huanchaco, apart from drink copious amounts of wine and eat loads of cheese on the terrace, was to pay a visit to the ancient city of Chan Chan (click here for the history of the place). The place is basically a huge real life sand castle city. It was amazing to see the place and how it was built! We were restricted in the things that we could have done in Huanchaco because Mike knackered his foot by walking too much in flip-flops.... aaah the joys of good weather!
After 6 nights of chilling... we`re hitting the road... gettin in some distance.. first to Lima and then to Nasca
