Well.... heh!!!

At last we´ve made it across Mexico... seen some pretty cool things along the way.
Now we are in Cancun.... and by golly... what a place!!!!

First off.... one needs to know that there are TWO distinct Cancun´s.... one is the Mexican Cancun... the downtown area... and the other is the Zona Hoteleria!!! As you may have guessed the Zona Hoteleria is where the tourists go. We are staying in the downtown area... can´t be affording the other place.
We took a bus down to the Zona Hoteleria, tis about 10kms away from the downtown area. OH MY GOD..... the place is EXACTLY what the rest of Mexico is NOT!!! The place was like legoland, high rise hotels and flashy shopping complexs. You pay through the nose for everything... take for example... a beer... to buy it from an ordinary shop in the downtown you pay maybe 4.50 pesos, to but the EXACT same beer in the Zona Hoteleria ... we saw prices of 40 pesos.... that´s 10 times the cost!!! UNREAL!!!!
The Zona Hoteleria area gave us a reminder of the whole matierialistic world we live in at home. As we left the place by local bus, which was packed with locals returned from a day working in the tourist part, we both felt in a much more at ease and in a more realistic place... the tourist part is just totally and utterly surreal.

As for the downtown Cancun... we are constantly pestered by people thinking that we are Americans, tis getting freakin annoying!!!

The highlight of Cancun... booking our tickets to Cuba.
We are going to be there Sarah´s birthday on November 17th and also for Fidel´s 80th birthday celebration on December 2nd.

Hasta Luego
Till next time.
