The trip to Oslo was probably the best bit, really. Up over mountains, with tons of snow - we even saw our first glaciers! (photos attached, of course). Really spectacular, although after our marathon 12 hour trip the day before, it was pretty hard to sit still for the 7 hours it took on the train.
Oslo, is probably not the most exciting European City we have been to. Maybe if it was the first city we had seen it would have seemed a bit grander, but we have seen a fair bit know. Another palace, another fort etc. etc. It's got to be something pretty good to impress us now. What it does have, that other cities don't though is a massive ski jump that you can see from every part of the city
Oslo was great for another reason though, as we caught up with another ex-Brisbaneite, Cas, who is now married to a Norwegian girl and living it up in Oslo. Tour Guide Cas showed us around, then we retired to his bar and it all gets rather messy from there. The less said about this, the better, I think.
The next day kind a sucked (a lot!). Did you know that the Ryan air 'Oslo' Airport, is actually a two and a half hour bus ride south of Oslo? Funnily enough, either did we! Did you also know that there is only one bus a day to this airport? Again, either did we! So, after missing the only bus to the airport, we had to run to the train station, and just managed to catch a train that took us to a train that was close (well, sort of) to the airport. Then get a taxi (about A$150 later) and managed to make it with half an hour to spare. Guess what? The plane is late of course. All up, after leaving the hotel at 10am, we got home at 6pm that night. The actual plane ride was only an hour and a half.
Sometimes, cheap budget airlines just aren't all they're cracked up to be.
Still despite the whole trip being pretty exhausting, Norway is an incredibly beautiful, peaceful and friendly country that is quite different to the rest of Europe. Yet another place I want to go back to at some stage.
