The beach, the beach-side bar, the beautiful bungalows lining the well-groomed pathway...the dirt parking lot, and then behold - the concrete building, the oven...our Home Away from Home.  Which, as it turns out, was actually the staff accommodation.  At least that helped to explain the enormous pile of shoes outside all doorways but our own, why our neighbours got up so freaking early, and why it was so cheap.  Just our cuppa tea.

Let us be the first to deem Koh Lanta Thailand's Most Up-and-Coming Island.  Sigh - we're totally in love with it.  "And above all this, I wish you lo-ooooove..."  Lanta is like a secret island that all the speedos and Spring-Break-YEEEAAH! Australians don't know about yet.  We spent 11 days basking in its glory, and during the last few we busied ourselves with devising ways to stay there longer, or possibly come back to live out the rest of our lives there.

On Lanta we acquired some impressive new skillz:

1.       Ability to tell time by the sun's position in the sky.

2.       Ability to wake up and instantly know all the meals we wanted to eat that day.

3.       The exact combination of dried chilis, chili vinegar, and lime juice to add for a perfect pad thai.

4.       Ability to position mosquito net for maximum wind from fan, whilst remaining protected from mosquitoes.

5.       Ability to layer various creams (sunscreen in varying spfs, moisturizer, tiger balm) and sprays (mainly of the BUG variety) all over our body and not disgust ourselves at all.  Even when salt and sand are added to the mix.  STILL not itching for a shower.

6.       Ability to spot and kill spiders and mosquitoes in the blink of an eye.

We also made some very unique friends on Lanta!  (As my Nick Hornby obsession increases, as does my obsession for lists - really, they go hand in hand.)

1.       Two adorable old ladies, American, one of whom was the mama of the guest house owner.  So sweet!  They were best friends 4 LYFE and told us about their trip 56 years ago to California...and, oh, wouldn't they just love to scrapbook photos from then and now, teehee.

2.       A couple of English boys, who turned out to be travelling with...
150 other people, all from work, which turned out to be...
"The carnival".  Yes, they were CARNIES.  Nice, entertaining, friendly, carnies with true cockney accents.

3.       Nikki's yoga teacher, a fine yoga teacher if a little creepy when not in yogi-mode.

4.       A whole bunch of Canadians.  They are everywhere, and yet each new Canadian seems SO pleased to meet us because, freakishly, they have met none.  How can it be so?!

5.       The lovely staff of the guesthouse next door, home to the restaurant with the Best Menu and Best Indian Food and Best Decorations.

We are all too aware that our days of doin' nothin' are slipping by quickly, and are happy to report that we really made the most of Koh Lanta...a whole lot of doin' nothin'.
