We knew we had an easy day with that big downhill at the end. We leisurely got our things together and said goodbye to the hotel owner.
Outside, we found a crowd of Purépecha women at a door of a business. We moved in and saw they were waiting in line for machine kneaded tortilla dough. They each carried little pail that would be filled. With that, it would be easy to pat the dough into tortillas as needed during the day. Nearby was a stand with bread, fruit, carrots, eggs, and a creamy gruel. Michelle had some of the gruel and discovered it was oatmeal.
A big mural marks the entrance of Uruapan with the word "UTOPIA" prominently featured ( Keep dreaming. )
We quickly found Hotel Parque which we had picked out of the Lonely Planet, It wasn't as nice as we expected but it has a good location, is clean, and the price is reasonable. We tossed our things in our room and went to find some lunch. Cocina Mary was busy, a sure sign that a place is good. They had a half dozen set menus priced at 40 pesos ($3.33). Both of our choices were astonishingly good. The menu changed daily. We ended up eating one meal here each day! At another place we found al Tamal Zotodichay
We spent another 2 nights in Uruapan relaxing. We both felt we needed an extra day off.
