Ok, sit down and hold on for the ride!  We have jammed so many wonderful experiences into this day, Friday, that its difficult for me remember everything!

We started the day with an early rise in Santa Cruz.  We started our journey up the Coast and enjoyed the absolutely beautiful scenery along the way.  There were surfers taking advantage of the waves, campers parked with along the coast, waves crashing on the rocks and towns nestled in the rolling hillsides.  We decided to stop at a cafe for coffee and perhaps breakfast.  We sat at a table and enjoyed sourdough pancakes (no where near as good as Grandpa's) and over priced coffee.  Adjacent to the cafe was a small shack/surf shop where a local made surfboards and sold surf items.  We looked in his back room at all of the wood pieces, some raw, some sanded and some in the final stages.  It was really neat.  We bought a handmade postcard from him a a hand made scarf that his mother made and marketed to tourists.

We got back on the road again and stopped at a beautiful lighthouse that was also a Hostel.  We found it so neat to see the families who stayed there with their kids as they packed up and headed on their next adventure.

Next we headed toward San Franciso and the Golden Gate Bridge!  Wow.. what a site.  The fog had rolled in, but it was still a stunning picture.  We went over the bridge and winded through the mountains to Muir Woods Park.

How peaceful and beautiful this was!  We walked, in the mist and mud puddles through the park and just soaked in the vastness of the Redwood forest.  It was amazing.  We even saw a dear within arms length who was feeding nearby.

We left Muir Woods and headed to Sausalito.  We referred to our Fodors guide (Thanks Dana and Harvey!) to find a place to eat.  We ended up at a local-yocal place at the Harbor called FISH.  It was delicious!  I had fish tacos, Evan had a hamburger and we both had a cup of homemade chowder that was out of this s world!  We looked at all the boats and enjoyed our meal - happy as clams!

Next we headed to Oakland to see the city which is so famous for...  I don't know... gangs and violence?? haha, just kidding... we toured the downtown a bit and then returned our car at the airport and took the BART (train) back into San Fran.

Once we got back to San Fran I told Evan that I really wanted to go to the Ferry Station- as I had read it was rebuilt and a 'must see' in Fodors guide.  Low and behold we walked into a Wine tasting even sponsored by Slow Foods.  Slow Foods is a non-profit that is all about eating locally and educating on how this benefits the community and the local area.

The event was hosted by 30+ wineries from Nappa Valley along with local restaurants and for $20 a piece we got a wine glass and the opportunity to try local foods.  It was a wonderful event.  We gained an education on Nappa winery as well as mingling with the locals on a Friday night.

After that we were spent - as you could imagine.  We headed back to our hotel - which was MUCH better this time, and enjoyed a great nights sleep.

Wow... what a fantastic, action packed day!
