The road trip with all my stuff went well, except for one minor incident. We ran over a whole muffler on 475.....not cool. I always wonder how things like that happen. That could really do some damage and to just keep driving after your rusty muffler drops off your irresponsible. *tsk tsk* Luckily, it didn't hit the tires and nothing seemed to be leaking, although Vibey was purring a bit louder than normal. All-in-all good trip. Emily you're the best.

Tomorrow is the big day.

My flight leaves from DTW at 5 p.m. sharp. Boarding passes are printed and bags are packed. I was hoping to get away with just one bag, but with all the beginning essentials that I'm taking (meds, etc.) plus the items for my kids (pens, sticky notes, tic-tac-toe games – THANKS WBJ!) one suitcase seemed impossible.
While trying to relax a bit yesterday, I fell asleep outside and now I look like a ridiculous lobster. Not exactly the first impression I was hoping for....Emily said, "At least you'll match the chili peppers!"....ummmm

I just spoke to my baby brother who insisted I take the stungun he bought me for Christmas a couple of years ago.

Bro: You take it.
Me: They'll never let it through customs.
Bro: Put it in your check bag. You take it.
Me: It's not happening.
Bro: You be careful.

Also, after much debate and purchasing a very expensive laptop backpack, I have decided not to take my beautiful Macbook Pro with me on the trip. Pro: I can easily get on the internet if I can find WiFi and use it for my Spanish course. Con: I have to constantly carry it on me and protect it. Pro: I have a place to keep backups of my pictures and possibly Skype. Con: I don't want to take it out in public for fear someone will try to mug me.

Cons win., I will be scouting around for internet cafes and hoping my host family has a computer I can use. If necessary, I will have my mother ship me a cheap-o netbook or perhaps get one there. I will try to post at least once a week.

Thanks to everyone who is supporting me on this adventure. It's been a long process, but having wonderful friends and family behind me has really been a blessing.

Here goes nothin'

I'm so excited for you! And I'm so glad we both have blogs of our upcoming adventures! Thinking about you these next few days -- and can't wait to see you in December.

Buenos suerte, roomie! (on a side note, my dad used the word "roomie" in conversation yesterday...weird). I thought you might be happy to hear that Vibey has healed thanks to Ralph the mechanic and some sweet welding skills. I did enjoy that he sounded a bit like a sports car, though. Oh well. Also, I'm pumped that I got multiple shout outs in this blog. Safe travels tomorrow, lady! Know that I'll be creepily following your blogs for the next 5 months

Wow - you keep this up and you'll be the best travel blogger out there! Kinda sad about the laptop, but I know how you feel since I spent 2 hours yesterday reading about ways to keep my DSLR from being stolen on my euro adventure. Have a great flight, be safe and have fun!

I'll be thinking about you at 5!!! What was the final verdict on the lesbian poncho? Did it make the cut?

Wow, so I can make a comment here - confusing with email, facebook, now this; I feel a generation gap ha! I have been thinking of you since 5AM, kinda nervous about you going so far away; this from someone who just got back from the UK!
I know you will be safe, and cautious and anxious to do well. I hope to read future blogs with enthusiasm. Take care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@everyone: Thank you for the wonderful comments. Leaving for the airport in 1 hour! Ek!

@Candohead: I decided against the lesbian poncho. She's a big thang and just took up too much room. It's nice to know she'll be waiting for me when I come home though.
