so this is the pinnacle of my trip!!!
arrived in cali and it feels like this is where my holiday truely starts!!! checked myself into a hostel (dormitory! first time on this trip!) and asked about salsa classes. a guy called carlos was recommended for private classes, which is exactly what i wanted. now i have carlos and his dance partner (they are both part of a dance group in cali that teaches and does performances) come to the hostel to give me private classes for 2 hours a day...hard work (and i hate certain moves as they just feel really unatural to me...but i am not deterred to keep practising!!!) but i am really enjoying it!!! it's exactly what i came here for. i just really enjoy learning and continuously working hard to improve (though i have to accept that i'm never going to be as good as a professional dancer, which is partly because i'm now a bit too old!) and i feel so glad that through my passion for salsa, i have had the opportunity to go on this little adventure and see this beautiful country (and peru, ecuador and bolivia) and see so many things and meet so many different people along the way.
so what am i (and will be) up to in cali?! get up, stretch, eat (unbelievably cheap out here!!!), read, check out the city and nearby areas, go to the gym (which is right on the other side of the road of the hostel) for pilate classes and a swim in the pool, dance, practice, go online, sit outside the cafes watching the world go by and enjoy the sun and just taking it easy! man, THIS is what i call a holiday!!! tonight carlos will take me and another girl from the hostel who is also having lessons with him, to a salsa club nearby (though i have already been to a salsa club called chango in juanchito the second night i arrived!).
