Prague
Entry 46 of 46 | show all | print this entry |
Since we only had a short time in Prague we opted to take a free walking tour to get to know the city better and see the most important sites. The tour began in old town square with a brief history of Prague from the 10th century until present day. It was a bit overloading but nonetheless interesting. We then headed to see Old town hall and the astronomical clock. The clock was really stunning and the legends behind it were very interesting. The performance by the clock was not overly exciting just a parade of apostles and a bell ringing skeleton. We then went to Prague Castle where we wandered around the castle courtyards and gardens. The line to go in was so long that we didn't want to waste any of our precious time waiting. Of course, to get to the castle we walked over the Charles Bridge. On the bridge there were multiple religious statues and of course people selling things. The bridge was lined with jewelry stalls, portrait artists ans street performers. We did stop for about 10 minutes to listen to some wonderful old gentlemen playing Bohemian music. We then went to New town and into Wenceslas Square which is lined with shops and restaurants and of course a statue of St Wenceslas on horseback. We saw other important sites but I can't quite remember all their namers. The Czech language is a bit difficult. The tour was about 3 1/2 hours so we really got to see a lot. After the tour, we took time to rome the streets popping in and out of shops and stopping to people watch every now and then. At around six we stopped back at the hostel for about an hour so I could work on a paper that was due the next day. This did not last very long and instead we headed out for more street food and of course beer. We found a bar that had beer for about 1 euro which is an absolute steal, especially coming from Italy. We stayed at the bar for about 3 hours until we had to catch our bus at midnight to Munich. We were a bit buzzed but had no problem finding our bus and hopped the buzz would help us sleep. The first hour was no problem but when the buzz wore off and we finally realized the bus was a stifling 100 degrees we could no longer sleep and hopped for the ride to be over as soon as possible. I literally though I was going to suffocate but could do nothing about it. We finally arrived in Munich around 5 a.m. and had no idea how to get to our hostel, but would quickly figure it out.
