Lovely city....some funny people. Very, very glizty and sophisticated; lots of flash shops, bars and resturants, people dressed very nicely. Stayed in an ordinary place with a scetchy owner, but it was right in the heart of things. Had just an afternoon and a morning. Went to a very nice wine bar for a few samples, Memma was pretty keen on the Brazilian barman who was in turn pretty keen on Mark.
Snowing on our arrival, apparently quite rare and the locals were pretty happy about it. The next morning the snow had stopped, but it was still pretty crisp. Checked out the super impressive roman colleseum (third biggest), the pink granite contrasting the marble must make for a divine setting to stage operas (which happens every summer). Quickly ducked into a smallish archealogical museum, had a run in with one of the nastiest characters of our travels backing up our photos, grabbed some of the best pizza we tasted in italy and hit the road north to Austria.
roadtrippin to Austria The austostrada was carpeted in so much snow that even the Italians were slowing down!!! Just south of Bologna, the road had copped 40 cms of snow overnight, but we didn't have to put on the chains as the road was beign cleared and salted regularly. Once we crossed the Austrian border, the weather cleared (other side of a big moutain pass) and we scored magnificant views of the Tyrolean Alps as their engulf Innsbruck.
