Hello to one and all!
I pray that God has blessed all of you with a wonderful week! I just wanted to send out an update about Togo! After much confusion....I have my tickets! I will be flying out of Atlanta on August 1. Until that time I am working as a secretary for a construction company. I would like for all of you to notice that I said ticketS. Since my return flight is so far in advance I was not going to be able to buy a return ticket...which did NOT excite my family in the least! Well, praise the Lord, I was able to buy a round trip ticket that I can move the return date to the correct one when the time comes AND I will not have to pay extra to move it! (it usually costs about $200- $300 MORE to move your dates) That was such a great blessing! I know that Mom and Dad are much happier that I can actually get home...oh parents and their worries... ;-) I have gotten shot...I mean MY shots which were not too bad since I had already gotten most of them last summer to go to New Guinea. I did learn that there are some ...shall we say...geographically challenged...travelers in this great US of A. I thought you all might enjoy this story...so here goes!
After waiting for about an hour to get shot I was finally called back into the scary shot room at the Macon Health Center. There were three men, one lady and myself. We began talking about where we were going and two of the guys said that they were going to Ghana. They were completely befuddled when I told them that I was going to be their neighbor since I was going to Togo. They did not know where Togo was. Under normal circumstances I would not expect people to know where Togo was...I didn't even really know where it was until about 4 months ago....but they are going to be next door and I assumed they might have looked at a map, but silly me! The conversation continued and one of the guys said that a few years ago he and his wife had been preparing to go to Brazil (you know, the largest country in South America) and they started learning Swahili because they thought it was in Africa!! I...I..oh dear.. Once again, you have committed to go somewhere and you go through the trouble of learning a language without ever looking at a map?! Well, that was not even the end of the amusement! They continued to amaze me when we were looking at a map that showed where different diseases were prevalent and I showed them where Togo was. What was their response you might ask? "Oh! So Ghana is over there somewhere?".... I...I...I had no response. I am not trying to say that everyone should know where all these countries are, BUT if you are going to travel there...shouldn't you look at a map and learn about the country? You know, small details like...WHERE IT IS?!
I hope you have enjoyed this installment of "There just are not words to describe the amusement I get from some people!" :) Until next time!
God bless,
Bekah

Too Funny!
That is so true and very amusing. Sometimes you wonder what people are thinking. Glad you were able to get the tickets so Mom & Dad are reassured you can get home :)
It sounds so exciting, and I understand that Daniel Nicholas is going to be going, too. Partners in crime, yet again.
Glad that you surrived being shot!! ;)
Ignorance - oh my!
See, it's not confined to Crawford County!!!!! Too bad - maybe if it was we could find a way to control it.
