We check in, get wrist bands put on as we have an all inclusive deal here where it includes all meals and drinks. Whooo hooo! We get into our room, holey mother of god, this room is massive, about 4-5 times bigger than our main bedroom at home
This room has got to be the biggest we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in many places. We chill out for a while and then go for a walk to check out the hotel and its facilities. All seems pretty good, nice beach and its SAND, yes SAND! So good! We went and had some afternoon tea and then went back to our room and got changed and jumped in the pool. So nice to have to pool to ourselves for a while. For what we are paying here accommodation, all meals and drinks for 6 nights, you would only get accommodation at home in probably a decent hotel not in peak season. So unfortunately we can’t do this all the time but its pretty good value and its a bit of luxury before we rough it in Turkey and Middle East. After our swim we get ready for dinner. We had a nice buffet full of yummy food like salads, veges, fish, beef, chicken, pasta, pizza and heaps more. The desserts were good too. Anyway I ask Troy what he wants to drink and says “scotch on the rocks”, no worries I go to the bar and order. Oh my god the barman just got the whisky bottle and poured an entire glass full of straight whiskey. I think my eyes were popping out of my head, I didn’t expect a full glass of scotch
1 SEPTEMBER 2010 - First full day at the resort and we head down to the buffet breakfast. Oh my maybe not such a good idea to have all meals included, too much too choose from and all very tempting. Well we thought dinner was pretty good but breakfast wasn’t as good but still plenty to pick. We chill out in our room and wash clothes as its wet, windy and overcast. Later it cleared up and sunshine so after lunch which was again a buffet which was quite good we decide we need to go for a walk.
We walk into Sunny Beach central where there is heaps of shops and restaurants and its touristy. Its also quite tacky, a mix between the tacky Gold Coast and tacky Asian touristy joints. It also felt like a big Royal Easter show. Well here you find lots of overpriced souvenir shops, rides, restaurants selling quite cheap food and sex shops. Here we also come across a restaurant called Troya, a hotel called Troya Complex and a travel agent advertising Troya. We both crack up laughing if you know why, its a joke between our family that we sometimes jokingly call Troy without meaning anything like what it actually really means in Italian. We buy two caps for Troy as he has been through 5 caps so far either lose them or fall apart and need new ones. We decide we have had enough so we walk back to our resort and have a swim in the big pool.
Our resort is quite nice so we will be spending most of our time here as Sunny Beach central isn’t a place we could spent a lot of time walking around, anyway we would rather swim at the beach and pool.
Its dinner time and we head down to the full on buffet again, pretty good but eat too much. Alcohol too is included so Troy is loving the beer.
2 SEPTEMBER 2010 - Spent most of our day in apartment doing financial stuff and just ate buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. Oh my they are so dangerous, too many choices. Most of the food is good to very good, some isn’t too great.
3 SEPTEMBER 2010 - After breakfast we went for a walk around town to take some photos. First day to the beach which is nice then into town. Sunny Beach is SO tacky and has the worst tackiest souvenirs I have seen on our trip. They are so tacky they make me cringe and talk about overpriced. Well we didn’t spend a lot of time around town then headed back to our hotel for lunch and to relax by the pool and swim at the beach
So much anger????? (won’t go into it).
Back to our room and then later had dinner. It was Bulgarian night, good food and we saw some traditional dancing which was really cool.
4TH SEPTEMBER 2010 - The weather here hasn’t been too warm so spent most of our time relaxing in our apartment, eating buffets and going for walk.
Also an emotionally tough day for both of us - why does life have to be so tough?
We went for a walk to the bus station to find out times for buses to Istanbul and it only took about 7 minutes slowly. If we knew we could of walked from the bus station when we arrived.
5TH SEPTEMBER 2010 - Happy Father’s day Troy
Happy Father’s Day Rob! Happy Father’s Day Papa who I love and miss so much. A miserable day today, wet and overcast. We spent a lot of time in our room, then went for a swim in the indoor pool and then dinner.
Our last night here in Sunny Beach. Well to sum it up we didn’t do much. The weather wasn’t really hot, mid twenties but we had a fair bit of rain and overcast days so we didn’t swim as much as we really wanted. The water at the beach was the warmest but had so many jellyfish. The pools were rather cold. The resort was nice. Our room massive and such a nice change as some rooms we have had its like been in a sardine can. We had buffet breakfast, lunch and dinners here and as you do you eat too much. Well won’t be eating much while camping so we enjoyed it here. Oh yeah no such thing is nips here, you get half or a full glass of spirits here, depending who serves you. This resort attracts mainly Europeans and a lot older than us. We didn’t really hear anyone speak English as their first language. As said before the resort was nice, the food good to very good (apart from a few things weren’t nice at all). The town is really tacky
6TH SEPTEMBER 2010 - Up early, have breakfast and check out. We go to the bus station to catch a bus to Bourgas and then onto Istanbul. Goodbye Bulgaria!
