14TH JULY 2010 - We leave our hotel in Amsterdam early to walk to our pick up hostel.  We hop on our bus for Berlin at 8am.  We spent just over 10 hours on the bus with a few service stops in between which made it a long day.  Well I now know why you have to pay for the toilets in the service stops in Germany, mmmmm they have revolving toilet seats that self clean each time someone uses it, lots of thought into that invention.
We arrive in Berlin about 6pm and get into our hostel at City Stay Hostel.  Our 6 bed dorm is quite big which is nice but its still very hot and stuffy, no aircon anywhere so it can be uncomfortable to try to cool down.  We went for a walk around town and it reminded me again why I didn’t like Berlin the first time I was here, its a very unattractive city.  We spent a couple of hours out and then sat around the hostel having a drink with a few people we knew and then bed.

15TH JULY 2010 - Last night was a shocker, so hot and feels like the temperature never drops at night.  Occasionally you will get a cool breeze but not often enough.  Mary once again finds it really really hard to deal with the heat at night and is having a real hard time with it at the moment, wish we could book into a 5 star hotel but NO. Its hard to believe that so many hostels and budget hotels we have stayed at have no airconditioning.  Its just so uncomfortable as its soooo hot, I wish I could sleep.......

We head off to get some breakfast and a drink and then we started walking around aimlessly.  Mary feeling somewhat fed up with the heat and lack of sleep says to Troy you go sightseeing I am going home.  So that is what happened, both becoming easily too cranky with each other I set off back to the hostel to have some quiet time. I stayed in the hostel room melting away and sweating from head to toe on the internet and Troy went sightseeing.  Give me some sleep and rest as I feel I am burning out and feels like I won’t make it through summer if we don’t have some ‘down‘ time.  You sort of forget how tiring it really gets travelling, its far from just a ‘relaxing‘ holiday.
After several hours I went for a walk to buy a drink and bumped into Troy.  After a hug we went for dinner.  Troy had a huge pork knuckel and I had schnitzel and then had a drink in the hostels courtyard, a cold shower and then went to bed.
16 JULY 2010 - We had to check out of our 6 bed dorm room into a 10 bed dorm room.  Why I don’t know.  Mmmmmm don’t like 10 bed dorms.  Anyway we put our bags into the room next door and then we went for a walk.  We grabbed breakfast and then we walked quite a fair way to get to the Berlin wall.  We found it after several stops at supermarkets to buy drinks.  Its a very hot day today.  We even came across a supermarket that is exactly the same set up as Aldi at home so Troy was happy. I reckon it was Aldi but they have a different name here.  The wall has some really cool graffiti and a hostel on the water behind it looked rather cool.

On the way home from the wall we stopped off in the shopping centre to try to cool down in the airconditioning.  We don’t why everywhere we have been in Europe including Berlin, the shops, the restaurants, the cafes and especially accommodation, nowhere seems to have any decent airconditioning.  We walked around for a few hours in the shops as it was just a bit cooler.  We had dinner in a food court, chinese buffet in Berlin, it was cheap

After dinner we headed back to our hostel, showered and had a drink in the courtyard. We bump into one of our guides who tells us its been 45 degrees in Venice, arrrr we didn’t want to hear that as we are heading that way. We are pleased today we have booked 10 nights in Split where we are going to do NOTHING!

Tomorrow we head off to Prague, we are so looking forward to it.  From what we have experienced here so far in Germany - well the people aren’t that friendly, we think we have met nicer Germans out of Germany.  Troy says “Berlin is alright, its not the most fantastic city I have ever seen, its very new”.   Mary says “I think the same again about Berlin as I did the first time I came here... I don’t like it, its not my favourite city, nothing attractive about it”.
