Where I stayed
We left Johnson City, TN and headed for Asheville NC. It was an absolutely stunning drive. We were especially surprised since we made this part of the trip on the interstate. If only it hadn’t been raining. We weren’t supposed to have any rain on this part of the trip, but it followed us most of the day. We did find the farmers market in Asheville after getting lost once and having to call my mom for help J What a farmers market that was. We chose to just quickly pass through the drive thru part of the market since we didn’t want to haul back any fresh produce, and since it was raining. But, we stopped at the shelter part where the vender sold some produce, jarred items, and meat. Wow, do these people know flavor. It always amazes me that these flavors don’t catch on in the Midwest
With the rain, we did not pursue any part of the Biltmore estate experience, we left NC and headed for the cabin. The rain stayed with us for quite a while. We walked through Pigeon Forge for a bit while waiting for the cabin to get ready. Very very busy area here. Cliff still can’t comprehend the amount of people here, and coming from a guy that has seen more cities than most, that says a lot!! It is absolutely crazy busy!
We got to the cabin, and were not disappointed. It is very cute and cozy. Even more spacious that we expected. We have a few nice mountain views to enjoy. We were able to play a couple games of pool last night and enjoy the hot tub for a bit.
In our exploring yesterday, we did make it to Newfound Gap (sp?) Going up the mountain road into the Smoky Mtn Natl Park, the views were stunning. The road followed a mountain stream that we stopped at several times. The sun was starting to set and the smoke was starting to roll in, so we stopped at Newfound Gap and watched. That was truly amazing to just watch the smoke come in and envelope everything you could see. Even while Cliff was taking a photo, I could just watch the smoke move in between us. Very very cool to see. This was all at an elevation of 5046. Thursday, we are planning to make it to Clingman’s Dome for sunset. That is supposed to be even more dramatic.
We had Bojangles fried chicken for dinner…… MMMMMmmmmmmm good!
