We just finished a dinner of peanut butter sandwiches and ginger beer at the Rwenzori Traveler's Inn in Fort Portal. Tomorrow morning we start a two day trek through the foothills of the Rwenzori mountains. It is still very green and the mountains are visible every once in a while through the clouds. Fort Portal is 322 km from Kampala but the bus ride was 6 hours - lots of stops and the hills kill the bus's momentum. Road was really good and I always enjoy looking out the window - check out the photo.
We are starting to understand what is meant by the 'short rains rainy season'. We kept asking what is a 'short rain'? Yesterday we spent the day in Kampala with nothing very exciting to do so decided to walk about 45 minutes to get some groceries, and on the way back decided to stop at a trade show. A huge rain storm started while we were walking around and it absolutely poured for about 2 hours - we spent half the time walking around in a building and the rest of the time staring at the rain wishing it to stop. When it finally did we had to wade through ankle deep water to get out of the area - all the water is red from the red clay. It was a wet walk home.
I am trying to add some photos so check back on some of the old posts for pictures... Chris is loading up Gorilla pictures so check his blog as well
