It has been a crazy adventure. We spent yesterday driving southwest across Uganda towards Rwanda. The drive was long and crazy. Driving 101 in Uganda - signal lights are used to tell the people behind you NOT to pass (i.e. there is on-coming traffic) and you turn it off when it is safe to pass. Headlights are used only if someone has not followed the 'do not pass' signal - that on-coming car (in the right-of-way) would flash his headlights to warn of a possible head on crash. The roads are tarmac, but numerous potholes make it hard to remember sometimes. Despite being very different from Canada the traffic flows very well and we felt quite safe during the drive.
This area is called the 'Switzerland of Africa'. I have never been to Switzerland so I can't confirm but it is very beautiful. Rolling green hills covered in various types of farmland. We spent the night at Lake Bunyoni and went for a quick dip (after checking with a number of sources to confirm, again, that there were no hippos in the lake). It is a very deep crater surrounded by hills terraced with farms. Extremely beautiful and very relaxing.
Today, after another drive through this fantastic landscape, we are in Kisoro. The Virungas volcanoes are visble from town. We went and visited a market - I'm running out of time and I'm not sure how to describe it right now so I will wait for another time. Tomorrow we track Gorillas in Bwindi National Park. Talk at you again soon...
