The weeks between job offer and what Raytheon/NANA call "Deploying" were filled with mountains of paperwork and shopping.  I stocked up on layers, bought a camera, and moved everything I owned into a storage bin.  This was no easy task because I am the most skillful pack rat the west coast has ever seen.

I was intensely worried about the cold.  I grew up in Seattle, which is technically a temperate rain forest.  Though we have snow in the mountains, any local will tell you its usually half-melted, and after five years living in California, I had grown weak.  I started purposefully forgetting my coat everywhere I went in hopes my personally instituted training would help me survive the Antarctic cold.

My friend Jess from Calgary told me to her cold past a certain point (somewhere around negative 20 I think) is pretty much the same.  As a child she and her classmates would beg not to have to go out for recess in -22F.  I suppose if seven year old Canadians can tough it out, I should be able to do it for a few months...

I leave today.
