    Ubud is the sister city to Bali. It is set among beautiful rice terraces an hour inland of most of the Bali beaches. It's known as an artist community with loads of shopping, spas, massages, great restaurants, nature walks and general relaxation. Ana loved the place, but it's not my bowl of rice and I lobbied for an early departure back to the beaches. The problem is most of the activities are things that aren't practical for our current travels. Everything is cheap, but not necessarily on a back packers budget. I can't buy anything since I don't want to carry it and any shipping charges would null the product's cheap price.

    Ubud does have the cheapest wine and cheese in Asia. There are tons of great restaurants in the 5 to 10 dollar range. You can really treat yourself here on a 50 or 75 dollar a day budget, not much for a typical person on holiday, but beyond our 30 dollar a day standard.

    There is also a Monkey Forest surrounded by beautiful nature walks set among rice terraces. Numerous monkeys go about their business oblivious to you, a few lazy ones expect a handout or two from you and have been known to shakedown the tourists for some snacks.

    Basically, Ubud is a dream spot for woman. Endless shopping and spa packages with great food and wine. What more could you want. Endless beautiful hotels with immaculate pools set among lush gardens..
