Wasn't in the mood at all for the drive to Flagstaff. Really wanted to stay longer in Palm Springs. Anyhoo...off I set at silly o'clock to get the new car from the airport. Decided to go for something big and comfy, as I was going to be doing some long stretches. Nice big Chrysler 300. Bit of an old man's car, but big comfy seats, and all mod cons including Sat radio which is FAB!

I seemed to be really struggling with the driving today. Felt really tired and a bit cranky. With that in mind, I thought it best to have a few stops on the way. I even bought one of them horrible energy drinks.

Stopped off at a lovely place called Lake Havasu City. It was like an oasis in the desert. AND it is where London Bridge was moved to by a mad American back in the day. As I said before, I was a bit moody and at one point my sat nav was telling me I was at London Bridge. I shouted at it, "well where the F*CK is it then???" Of course I was driving across it!

The rest of the drive to Flagstaff was horrible. Some of the roads in Arizona are really in need of repair and the locals drive like nutters!! However, the approach to the city was beautiful. Up into the mountains with cooler air, and really nice, almost alpine, scenery.

Was shattered by the time I got there, so grabbed a bite to eat, and watched some tv, then nodded off. Been happening a lot lately...I woke up at 3.30am, WIDE awake. Went out onto the balcony for a smoke and it was FREEZING!!! Ok, so not that cold, but seemed it after Palm Springs. Just like Monument Valley, the stars were amazing. 2 REALLY bright ones, which I looked up, and were Saturn and Venus. Looked so close!, Could also see the Seven Sisters.

After a coffee or 4, I set off very early for Albuquerque. Another long drive, but the scenery promised to be a bit more interesting than the previous day.

First stop was well worth it! It's a giant meteor crater in Arizona. What a site! Standing there, felt like I was on the moon. Was even better, as I got there really early and had the place virtually to myself. Started off as a bit of a disaster though. I pulled into the car park, and stood on the edge of this mostly flat desert like waste land. My first thought was what a waste of petrol! Then I saw the visitor's center and went for a look. Turns out I WAS just looking at a piece of waste land, and you had to pay $20 I think, to go through the visitors centre and view the crater.

Spent just 20 mins looking at the crater and the visitor's centre (George Maclean and I, once did The Louvre in Paris in 20 mins flat!)

Next stop was a place from one of my fav songs, "Take It Easy" by The Eagles. The song goes..."I was standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona..." So I went to see the corner that the town has made into a tourist attraction. Let me start by saying Winslow is a DUMP! The locals looked scary too. Lot's of bedraggled looking youths, hanging around with nothing to do.

I really wanted to get someone to take my pic standing on the corner, but didn't fancy my chances of getting my camera back. So I just took a couple of pics from the car, and put my foot down.

Past a place called The Petrified Forest. I have no idea what a "petrified forest" is, but I can only assume it has something to do with it's close proximity to Winslow!

As I arrived in Albuquerque, the clouds were rolling in. I was going to go out for a drink, but was still feeling very tired and a bit off colour. So I ordered some room service and downloaded some Eastenders to cheer me up. Always works!! Lot's of thunder and lightning early evening, but thankfully it stopped around 10 in time for me to pass out. X

George on

...and I get a mention! Glad to hear that you are flying into Louisiana, much safer than driving through potential flash-flooding.

Say hello to NooOrlins for me! We had such a lovely adventure there, and Charlotte Church's adventure was NOTHING on ours!
