Austin sure is a Fun town. On our way in from Dallas, we stopped at Z Tejas just north of the city. This was Tex Mex at its finest, with warm cornbread, great chips, salsa, and guacamole and everyone had a great meal. Thanks JD for the recommendation.

We rolled into the Radisson close to midnight, because we decided to drive around the city, which is centered on the State Capitol Building, the biggest one by far that we've seen on this trip. We also drove by the nightclubs which were hopping on a Wednesday. Like Madison, this is a bike-friendly place, with bicyclists pedaling day and night.

Woke up the next morning (after a surprise complimentary upgrade to a suite), and headed to Congress Avenue, south of the city. We went shopping and had lunch there. The girls went to a trendy Italian bistro and the boys to a hole-in-the-wall taco bar. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Even better was the fact that while we shopped and dined, our clothing was being laundered and folded at Spin City.

They say Austin wants to stay weird, and shopping on S. Congress (SoCo) won't disappoint. There was an eclectic mix of bohemian, Mexican, trendy food trucks, art galleries, and renowned Allen Boots, where our fair lady even bought a pair!

We headed back to town and went to Whole Foods' flagship store on Lamar. It was pretty spectacular, and I even got a massage. This area of Austin is very village-like, as each house is a different business from Pilates to attorneys.

When we finally decided to leave for San Antonio, it was Rush Hour and I35 was not moving. Asked the locals for an alternate route, but had to resort to a paper map. Guess what, S. Congress kind of parallels I35, so we got back on the highway when the traffic had dissipated.

Next stop - San Antonio!
