Dear Blog,
We have actually left Prague so i thought i better write a blog before i forget everything
We arrived in Prague at 1pm on Monday 3rd, the train from Berlin took 4.5 hours Prague is a lovely city with very cool old buildings and cobbled streets everywhere, the afternnon was spent walking around in the rain which appears to be following us around Europe. We had planned on going and sampling some local food however we sat in the Hostel for hours waiting for our washing to finish, damn front loaders that aren't in English. The Hostel was nice, pretty quiet and basic, very large room and we had a kitchen which we liked.
The nest day (tuesday 6th sep) we went to Prague Castle, or Czech Disnyeland as i like to call it, they charge alot of money to see inside the buildings although you can see the best one for free, if only we knew but nevermind. The History of the Castle is quite interesting and the first bulding there is from the 11th century which is old. The best bulding as i mentioned was the Catherdral and inside were the most amazing lead light windows. we also went up the tower which was a very steep sprial climb up 300 steps. the view was worth it though
Today before we got on our next Train we went to the Museum of Communism which had some interesting facts about communism and how it affected the Czech Republic or Czechoslavia as it was known from 1918. In 1948 after WW2 is when the Communist Party took leadership and it didn't change untul 1989, 1993 Czechoslovakia split into what is now known as the Czech Republic and also Slovakia, not very long ago really. I feel lucky that we can visit these ex communist countries, Our parents generation would have never had the chance at our age with the state of the countires back then
oh and we did end up having some Czech food and Beer, the food is very German influenced just a little smokier and the Beer called Pilsner Urquall is meant to be the first brewed lager in the world. Its pretty good beer but Belgian still stands as favorite.
This afternnon we took a 7 hour train ride acroos the czech republic and into poland to Krakow which i will tell you more in the next installment some of which may be depressing as we will be visiting the largest of the Nazi Concentration camps which is an hour out of the city. but not all doom and gllom, Krakow is meant to be a beautiful old city, once the Royal capital of Poland.
take care xx
