Dear Blog,

Today we left Cologne bright and early and took the train to Bacharach which site on the rhine river. Bacharach is a lovely old village which has a castle looking over it at the top of a very steep hill, This is where we stayed for the night, it is called Burg Stahleck and is a Youth Hostel and i emphaise the word youth because there where a million german kids running around the place. The walk from the STation and up the gazillion steps and rocky path to the Castle was a killer, we had our 20kg house attached to us and it was tough but the view at the top is amazing and once we were up we knew all we had to do was come back down which was no where near as bad. The Castle dates back to the 12th century and has been a Hostel since 1925. Bacharach is surrounded by vineyards which you can actually walk through, the area is famous for reisling. There was not much to do here so we just sat around looking at the view for a few hours and had an early night.

Here isd a link to some pics from Cologne and Bacharach
