Whew! I have a couple of great days to write about! It has been a tremendous week and I have my wonderful castmates to thank for that. We have really started to bond and become a tight-knit group. Those people that I met 3 weeks ago upon arrival to Denver are no longer strangers but family. It's been such a blessing.
Wednesday was a typical day as we worked on movement, dancing, and singing. It was also our first long rehearsal day as we had a culture educational session after dinner until about 7:30 p.m. We had anticipated rehearsing right up until dinner but the staff had a different plan :) Instead, we played games for 2 hours! It was so much fun to exert our energy on something other than rehearsing.
On Thursday we had our first run-through. Though the morning went by very slowly, the afternoon sped by and we officially ran through the entire show. Wow. It was so amazing to see everything come together. We've been performing so many individual workshops for the past 3 weeks that we started to forget that we're striving to create a much bigger picture. So many talents were showcased on Thursday; especially those that one least expected to sing and dance. They were time bombs - ticking - waiting to explode.
And they did on Thursday!
I'm so excited for my parents to come to Aspen in a few days and see the show! I'll make sure to post a link to where everyone can see the show, if provided.
Today we took individual cast pictures and then worked on individual components. I also played piano for 4 hours today and am very pleased with each song. Now I just have to memorize! I have a few songs memorized but not all. Our band leader, Phil, lives a few blocks away from our host family and might bring over an electric piano for me. It'd be great to be able to practice at home. The only song that I am having trouble with is the main song, "Up With People". Go figure! Maybe they can cut it?
At the end of the day we were schedule to have a cast meeting. I would be lying if I said we were excited. The meeting was scheduled for 2 hours and after such an intense week of rehearsing, that was the last thing that we wanted to do.
Luckily, we have a rockstar staff who have been noticing our hard work.
The cast meeting was actually an ice cream social/dance party! It was great! Everyone had so much fun and it was a great way to end our week and start our weekend!
Tonight Helen, Doug, Tina, and I went to a street fair in Lewiston, a town about 15 miles from Broomfield. While Doug and Tina went to watch the band, Helen and I walked around the fair. She went rock climbing for the first time and we shared her first funnel cake :) We had a great time talking and laughing.
Tomorrow we're going to Pearl Street, a historic street in Boulder. I'm not sure about our plans for the evening but we may be going to an outdoor movie! It should be a great weekend :)
I hope everyone is well! I miss you all incredibly but am having a wonderful time :)
