After our late night on Saturday all the volunteers had a long lay in today. Well, we stayed in bed as long as we could before the heat made it too uncomfortable and then got up and hung around saying how tired & hot we were! We decided in the end that we deserved a treat after the last week and the excitement of Saturday that a trip to the pub for dinner was a good idea. So at about 6pm we got dressed and headed to Aldgate, a mere 45 minutes away to go to The Pump, the closest pub to Warrawong.

It was still hot and we climbed a couple of hill to get there but we made it with only one wrong turning - not bad for 4 pomms! Heidi and I decided we deserved a bottle Rose (which I can now drink again after hundreds of bottles at various leaving dos) wine from of the local wineries. To eat I had this fantastic platter of locally produced food - sun-riped tomatoes, olives, grilled peppers (or capsicums as they're called here), feta cheese, bread and more. It was supposed to a starter but it was extremely filling, so much so that I went straight onto dessert after and had a cherry chocolate cheesecake and shared a bottle of white with Stu & Heidi. As the wine flowed so did the conversation and before we knew it it was time to head home. But not beefer Heidi nicked a bowl of mints and ran for it, dropping them behind her like trail of breadcrumbs and me chasing her trying to pick them up!

Leaving the pub, it was dark and there are few street lights in the Hills so out came our torches for the long like back (remember it takes 45 minutes when sober!). Stu & Martha had gone on ahead (thinking they were faster walkers or soberer, but we were letting them test the road for mad Axe murders and evil koalas or dingos wanting to eat babies). However, it was Heidi and I that were stalked in the end, by a possum on an electricity wire!

After we made it back to Warrawong (eventually!), we conducted a little experiment to see if young possums like marshmallows (they do) and collapsed into bed. I wish I could say the evening ended there but unfortunately for me it didn't and I was up after less than a hour saying hello again to my cheesecake, platter & wine before curling up on sofa feeling sorry for myself and watching Battlestar Galactica on late night TV. It was a good night though!
